Die Bochumer haben nämlich seit drei Spielen nicht mehr ins Tor getroffen und die letzten beiden Partien in Freiburg (0:3) und daheim gegen Augsburg (0:2) verloren. Letztmals eingenetzt wurde Anfang des Monats bei der TSG Hoffenheim. Auswärts in Sinsheim ergab sich zugleich der letzte Sieg (2:1).

Vor Beginn: Genau acht Punkte sprechen auch für den VfL. So groß ist der Abstand zum Relegationsplatz. Den dort rangierenden und parallel spielenden VfB Stuttgart könnten die Bochumer völlig ignorieren, wenn sie heute einen Dreier einfahren. Dann wäre der Klassenerhalt endgültig fixiert.

Vor Beginn: Im Westfalen-Duell des Tabellenzweiten gegen den Dreizehnten droht uns fast schon Sommerfußball. Nachdem der Titel an den FC Bayern vergeben ist, gilt die Dortmunder Vizemeisterschaft als kaum noch gefährdet. Nach hinten haben die Borussen acht Punkte Luft, was nach menschlichem Ermessen reichen sollte. Um ganz sicher zu gehen und die Sache aus eigener Kraft klarzumachen, müssten die Schwarz-Gelben heute gewinnen. Dann könnte sich Verfolger Leverkusen morgen und im Rest der Saison auf den Kopf stellen, Platz 2 wäre für die Werkself in dem Fall unerreichbar.

Thomas Reis, der nach seiner Rotsperre wieder auf der Bank sitzen darf, nimmt Danilo Soares (Hüftprobleme), Armel Bella Kotchap (kurzfristig nicht im Kader), Patrick Osterhage und Simon Zoller (beide Bank) aus der Bochumer Anfangsformation.
