Jörg Schmadtke verlängert / Neuzugänge bei den Wölfinnen | Weekly Wolves Jörg Schmadtke wants to end his long functional career in football after expiration of his contract at the VfL Wolfsburg next January.

"That's exactly how, yes," the 57-year-old replied before the battles of the Wolves against the TSG 1899 Hoffenheim at the pay-TV channel Sky on a corresponding question. The VFL had announced the contract extension on Friday with the functional careers managing director until 31 January 2023.

"We came to the conclusion that January is a meaningful time," said Schmadtke and spoke of a "flowing transition". So his successor could already plan the squad for the then the following season. The promotion of the previous functional careers director Marcel Schäfer is expected.

His decision would also have "be able to say goodbye to the summer and to take care of other things as the VfL or generally the football," said Schmadtke, who has been working as Managing Director at the Lower Saxony since the summer of 2018. Previously, the former professional worked among others at the 1st FC Cologne and Hannover 96.
