DayZ developer PVE Survival Icarus -Serval Bal game affected by lively real SF [Developer interview]

An interview with the developer of the new indie game I'm worried about this project. This time, RockTwerkz development, EVE survival Icarus to be released on December 4 for PC delivers mini-in-tabs to developers.

This work is a new survival game that Mr. Dean Hall, a creator of Day. Up to eight people can play multiplayer, and we will make a mission with search and craft while confronting the tough environment of the planet Icarus.

Icarus will be delivered at 3,090 yen (10% off until December 7).

— First, please introduce yourself. What is your favorite game?

Dean Hall (DEAN) This is a DEAN of RockTwerkz. He is most well known to create a day mod that became a stand-alone work later.

Recently I played a lot of submarine horror games and Rim world called Microtrauma. I like the game that adopted a complex system that simulates something, and these games cause unexpected deployment. This is when a special moment due to the magic of the game is born, and the design of similar principles is also adopted in this work.

-Why did you start developing this work?

Dean 2012, after a few days after Games com, who was held in Germany, this work has started as a thinking experiment. The game journalist says the developer to the game you made, but you can see the real assessment by looking at the appearance that the player is actually playing. I wanted to solve various problems that occur when making survival games. It is a large scale but technically operational effect, and it is said that it may be necessary to make a multiplayer that can easily play without repeating the same work for the final game. A few years ago, we came to develop this work when we came up with a way to solve these problems.

This work is made of the latest Unreal Engine 4 and spent a considerable time to make a technically strong base. In this work, it is possible to collect all trees from all rocks. And at the same time 8 players can play together, and a huge building is built. This makes it easier to add more content, missions and animals and plants for many years.

— Please tell me the characteristics of this work.

DEAN This work is a session-based survival game, and the term forming project is on the planet that failed. The player gets down from the space station on the orbit, achieving the mission while surviving, and returns to the orbit, and you can get better equipment for the next mission. Therefore, the stronger element will be the character and the equipment.

Starting with day, many survival games have adopted a huge open world. However, it has not been focused on, and it is empty, and it takes a long time to walk for hours. In this work, more directionally has been added while putting this experiences together.

This work is ENVIRONMENT and there is no opponent (PVP). We felt that this was not so far-pioneered in the genre called Survival. For example, a fierce storm appears in this work and destroys the base (base) while the player is hiding in the shelter. It can be said that this planet itself will attack the player.

— What kind of person do this work do you want to play?

Dean Survival Games Fans! If you are such people, you will be able to find many familiar elements in this work. Collection of materials, item crafts, shelter construction, animal hunting... but the pace is different.

— Is there a work affected by this work?

Dean We were influenced by the lively, realistic SF. It is a work such as the movie Alien Interstellar Dune / Sand Planet. It will not be attractive for the near future space travel. The exploration of this work is at the space station as long as discarded. They fly various places to find parts, but they do not have anything when they reached that planet. Many things can be reached when traveling through the galaxy and traveling? Therefore, the player must be able to collect materials to survive on the planet, the stage of this work. In fact, when humanity will go to Mars, we will have many buildings using Mars resources.

The movie mentioned above is a thing with a quite a sense of crisis. Always do not know what happens when it happens with danger and neighboring. Also in this work, the player always warned around and needs to be prepared for all situations.

— Is there any plan to support Japanese work?

DEAN Yes. This work is scheduled for Japanese language at the time of launching. Publisher's Eureka Studio's friends helped to release this work for Japan. There is also a healthy Japanese Discord community.

— Did you have an impact on development by new coronavirus?

Dean We believe that rock-down and low infection rates were relatively lucky as we are based in New Zealand Auckland. The government has run a clock down throughout the domestic area, so in most of the development teams, we were able to work together at the office together. Game development is a number of creative problem-solving and teamwork. Development speed was also quick to gather around the whiteboard and someone's desk. When the latest rock down was performed, the development of this work was also conducted at the final stage, and it was good luck that it was easier to do from home.

— Is it okay to deliver and monetize this work?

I love DEATHWATCH and YouTube deliverers. It is great feedback that people can know how people actually play with friends.

We developed regularly throughout the development of this work (sometimes there were bugs and unfinished content). It is very important that it is honest and transparent when delivering. I had several times that it was leaking the elements of this work that has not yet been announced at my Twitch channel (@ Rocket2Guns).

Also, I also deliver the figure of developing side projects that are working separately from this work. This is a good train management game with this work, and is the work of Art of the Rail. When I'm programming in Unity, people talked with chat, and I think that the game development beginner is a wonderful way to know how the game is made.

DEAN several years ago, I visited Japan and had a great experience. I was moved by a particularly surprising technologies and beautiful nature coexist. As you can see if you look at this work, both are firmly remained in my heart. Because I was interested in the Shinkansen, I think that Art of the Rail is not necessarily added with an update!
